THE BACK DOOR

The Back Door, originally established by Faith Lehane, is primarily an open-mic spot. It looks quite sketchy from the outside, but the interior has a certain charm? If you're cool with an underground punk dive bar kind of vibe, this is the spot for all your open mic dreams!

Do you have a band?
Are you a singer?
Are you a comedian work-shopping a set?
Do you have some spoken word poetry you really want to get off your chest?

All performances are welcome, and there are instruments set up and available for your use in case you don't have your own with you. If you're bad, that's okay! You'll get a complimentary drink for your performance anyway! Hecklers are NOT welcome and will be told off or ejected by the staff.

Inside you'll find the main stage with a dance floor in front, then tables, a bar with the basics (there's beer on tap, well liquor and cocktail basics, but nothing fancy and absolutely no surprise ingredients), and cozier booths along the walls. Venture into the secluded corners and find some plush couches for you to relax (or do other things on) while you listen to the next set. The new management has removed the pillow mountain in the interest of space and hygiene. They apologize, but promise it was done in your best interest.

There's also a roof area for those in the know, with a lighted patio, chairs, and patio furniture, and a few hammocks. It's usually closed off to regular customers, but access is granted if you ask nicely and for special events. Enjoy the night air with a few drinks and a special someone or several!

A new addition is the large chalkboard on the wall opposite the bar, impossible to miss when you enter. Customers are invited to make suggestions on dishes they miss from home and/or "vote" on others' contributions with a tally mark. New management has renovated the seldom-used kitchen area, making the necessary improvements to operate it as a small restaurant space. Although there is no standing menu for food service, there will now be Tuesday dinner served in addition to the regular Sunday brunches. (See special events below.)

Hours:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 5PM-11PM
Wed-Saturday: 12PM-2:30 AM
Sunday: 10AM-2PM

Special Events:

Tuesday Dinner: inspired by early 1900s supper clubs, the tables are properly set this evening to offer a limited menu based on seasonal ingredients and customer input. Instead of open mic there is either a designated musical performance or music will be played over the sound system. No reservations, first come first serve. Next week's Tuesday Dinner menu is usually posted the following night, though there are sometimes changes made due to inspiration. There is always at least one Japanese comfort food menu item.

Sunday Brunch: open mic is limited to poetry readings, lighter music (acoustic guitar, smooth jazz, etc), and similarly chill performances. There is a breakfast-adjacent menu and the bar is open, also serving coffee, tea, and mimosas.

Wednesdays: 8 PM - 11 PM is Karaoke! Friendly reminder that heckling will not be tolerated.

The Back Door is available during closed hours for those looking to hold gathering for special events and parties. Catering is now available upon request.
