People able to see past my bullshit and communicate around it. My team just... the others cared more than anyone besides my parents ever had but they weren't equipped to help me.

Yeah. That's an important thing to have. Even if it's not 'helpful', someone who can get around the shit makes a big difference.

It turns out with friends capable of both those things instead of just one, I'm not as much of a failure or pain in the ass as everyone back home thought. As I thought.

Val has told me that it shouldn't have taken my whole life before him to find someone like that, but actually meeting more people who can here has made me finally believe him. You're right that it doesn't even have to be "help", just being willing to tell me things in a way I understand is a big difference.
